DESCRIPTION: Parallels is a 2D side scrolling platform puzzler developed with a partner in Unity. Rifts in time have opened that connect the past and future. The player controls a nameless protagonist attempting to reach the final rift and mend time. He will have to transition between past and present in order to traverse blocked areas of the environments. The player can also alter the past to affect the present by planting seeds that sprout into vines to reach higher levels and changing the flow of water to raise platforms in the present. Objects can be taken through the rift as well to further alter when and where a player must begin. Each puzzle is its own level that builds on former knowledge while increasing complexity at a constant rate.

POST MORTEM: Designing a steady difficulty curve over the course of a puzzler is no easy task. Without constant playtesting, the idea of each puzzle will be lost in its complexity. We found that too often we were attempting to offer challenge over communication. The quality of a puzzle should, in part, be connected to how well the idea of the developer is expressed to the player. A player completing a puzzle should imply understanding not luck.
